Patina started life as a manufacturing company specializing in creating reproduction antique parquet flooring with Versailles and other French and European chateaux and large country homes as inspiration. The "patina" of generations living out their lives from birth to death and everything inbetween, created flooring that was unique, mellow and welcoming.
Patina then recreated the designs using the same species of wood and using the same centuries old methods of fabrication. But that in itself simply created new floors. The design team then decided to hand scrape the flooring, just as it had been done throughout the ages when the floors had been refinished. This cleaned off the ingrained

dirt and stains of past use and in the process left some residual staining in the grooves and grain of the wood and frequently "distressing" in the surface as certain areas had to be more deeptly scrapped to smooth the abuse the flooring had been subject to. Spurs, swords, fights and animals had all had their fun on these floors.
The design team decided that these recreation floors would gain great character by duplicating this "distressing" even though they did not neet it. In thus was born the unique new aged flooring that gave rise to the name "Patina Old World Flooring".
Once these creative instincts of the design team caught hold, they started to develop new designs rooted in the traditional floors of old Europe. This lead to whole new parquet designs not seen anywhere before. Abstracts, trompe d'œil, combinations of wood species and other materials from stone to ceramic, from glass to metal.

Soon clients were asking for designs to be created especially for their house, or in the case of architects and designers, for their individual projects. Patina obliged.
Today, Patina creates everything from customized borders to go with the customized floors, as well as trim, stair treads, thresholds and whatever anyone wants. They have created a sister company, LV Wood Floors West that is both the sales and marketing arm for Patina floors but also works with clients to match the right floor with the client's needs, even combing the globe for flooring that is not part of the Patina manufacturing product scope.
So Patina design finds it roots in the quality and techniques of the past and with that as a base, also builds floors of the future.
