Our engineered flooring is designed to reduce the impact on the flooring of difficult locations . It is a lamination of woods consisting of a sawn surface wear layer (the actual species you want and will see on top) to a substrate layer of specially designed cross laminated plywood with water resistant bonding.
This glued and cross grain flooring looks exactly like our solid wood flooring complete with board widths, species, rustic and/or hand scraped distressing and all our finishes. It just resists the expansion and contraction, cupping and warping that can take place with standard solid plank flooring in difficult environments.
In addition, there are flooring applications where there is not vertical space (in a kitchen for example) for the double thickness of a 3/4” sub floor with an additional 3/4” flooring on top. Traditional flooring on top of sub floor can encroach on the “kick” space of the existing cabinetry. The “engineered” flooring does not require a separate sub floor since it is, in effect, a surface wear-layer pressed onto a sub floor.
Patina has several different classifications of this flooring from custom wide plank with 3/8" wear layer on a 3/8" plywood substrate to an "easy on the purse" product line the "Relics Collection".
