The Swift and Dynamic Rise of Patina Old World Floors |

| Patina is a different kind of wood flooring company and part of that unique character can be ascribed to its beginnings in 1995. It was actually a spin off of Henderson Wood Flooring a flooring installation company founded in 1992. Owner and founder of Henderson was Jim Henderson who was on vacation in France one time and fell in love with the look and feel of the old parquet flooring at Versailles. He spent the rest of the trip working out how he could recreate these floors imbuing new flooring with the ambience of the ages. With research into traditional hand scraping methods and his own deep knowledge of both carpentry which has been his passion for as long as he could remember as well as his expertise in flooring installation and all its pit falls, he developed the first of many traditional parquet floorings. These then led to wide plank floors rendered with the same “patina” of the ages. And thus was born Patina Old World Floors. With installations in such mansions as that of Actor Paul Hogan, Olivia Newton-John, Rob Lowe and Steve Tisch to name a few, word of mouth took on an energy of its own the Patina has never looked back. Of course this early success with these unique, hand finished and distressed floors gave rise to a host of imitators some trying to get the same look using machines and others a variety of methods, but none has been able to emulate the supple, unique feel and texture, depth and soul of the original floors of Patina. Because of its small, nimble size and core of creative motivation, Patina has developed hand in hand with the requests of clients both home owners and architects, builders, interior designers and installers who wanted the floors of their dreams, not something out of a catalogue no matter how fine. Patina worked with these people, did the research, solved the problems and provided flooring that gave the clients what they wanted and in the process has spawned even more innovative and interesting surfaces, designs as well as developing flooring using today’s technologies and products to solve installation problems from mold and mildew protection to warping and buckling; from plank floors pressed onto plywood substrate to resist expansion/contraction from humidity extremes as well as under floor heating. They have used this expertise to develop an entry level flooring that is not custom but evokes much of the richness and individuality of custom flooring with their “Relics Collection” series (www.relicscollection.com). From each new challenge presented them by their clients, Patina invents yet another floor to add to its repertoire.
